Hello!
With the upcoming heatwave, I thought I’d share some tips I’ve gathered on staying cool and getting good sleep, as it can get quite stuffy at night.

Good sleep is important as obviously, your focus improved and you don’t feel tired and grumpy, but also, after good sleep you don’t have to wake up, only to have to look in the mirror and see to livid, bloodshot eyes, which can be quite scary!
But there are some other benefits as well, such as it making you feel more positive – when you feel angry or negative, it does all go away from a great night’s sleep, doesn’t it?
This one may surprise you – you get better memory after having sufficient sleep (this is probably why they always say in revision tips to get good sleep!) One I do know is that if you go to bed remembering something important, you will remember it when you wake it the next morning!

In general, I feel it is important to ensure you are getting the right amount of sleep. For me, when I get too much sleep, I feel quite tired and lazy during the day. When I have less sleep, I feel tired and more energy is needed to sustain myself, which is not good.
I think what does help to gain good sleep is, to a certain degree, dependent on the work you do during the day. If you do some physical work, you are going to feel tired at the end of it and if you do mental work, you are going to feel mentally exhausted. If you still persist through the day, I find you get a great night of sleep.
One of my friends had told me that to get good sleep you need to change the temperature of your body. This is partially correct because it turns out your body cools down when you go to bed and a cool room temperature will help. The ideal temperature is around 18 degrees Celcius.
During the day, I have tried putting a bowl of ice in front of the fan which can waft cool air. From my experience, this works, but will work quite well if the fan is not moving and it is concentrated at an area.

I have also seen people running their wrists under cool water before sleeping. I did try this and it does work. Even during the day when you find you’re a bit exhausted because of the heat, this trick does work! Try it, and let me know how it went in the comments.
Another irregular cooling tip: a cold water bottle. I know this sounds a bit strange but you use a hot water bottle and fill it with cold water. When you then pop it in your bed, it will feel cooler – I guess we could say it works like an ice pack. I haven’t tried this, put it does seem like a great idea, especially when it is so hot that even when you step outside, it feels like you are being burnt in an oven.
Thank you for reading! I really hope these tips help you. Let me know in the comments if some of these tips help and if you have your own tips to stay cool in such heat!
Thanks for these great tips, Ronnie!
